Our founder and Executive Director, Venita C Dell, was only a teenager when she witnessed her childhood friend being physically abused by her mother rather than receiving the stability, support and encouragement she truly needed during that unplanned event in her life.
At age thirteen, Venita vowed someday she would work to provide a safe place for other pregnant teens to grow into responsible loving moms. She began writing her business plan at 13 and completed it while traveling with her high school sweetheart in the United States Navy.
After many tours with her naval officer Venita, returned to her hometown of Cincinnati, Oh in 2004. She was finally able to make her dream a reality by incorporating Helping Young Mothers Mentor. She received her certificate from the State of Ohio in 2007 and began her journey.
As our organization grows,
Our goal and mission is to connect with fruitful donors, volunteers, friends, and other organizations in an effort to "create a self sufficient youth for a better tomorrow". This is a much needed program in our communities . Studies have found that "between 40% and 60% of our young mothers living on the street have had a least one teenage pregnancy." In the United States, three out of every 10 girls become pregnant by the age of 20. Furthermore , the United States has the highest rate of teen pregnancy and birth than any other country." Teen pregnancy and parenthood are associated with a higher chance of dropping out of school, poorer paying jobs, and teens parents are more likely to live in poverty.
We believe our clients' needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from social service agencies, schools, community centers. Churches, word of mouth and other referrals sources.
We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service in the community.
As, Helping Young Mothers Mentor Inc. awaits for their future residential home (their butterfly) to bloom, Mrs. Dell vows to help create self sufficient youth for a better tomorrow by implementing Lee's Daughters, a one on one mentoring program for young moms and an empowerment program called "Young Sisters Doing It Right Empowerment " for young girls in our communities.
